Volleyball: RedHawks Survive Day 1 in TSAC TournamentNASHVILLE, Tenn. (11/9) – Martin Methodist College started the 2009 TranSouth Athletic Conference Volleyball tournament today in Nashville as they played host Trevecca Nazarene University in the opening round.
The Trojans were too much for the RedHawks to handle in the opening round and MMC was sent to the loser’s bracket as Trevecca won in three straight sets, 25-17, 25-17, and 25-20. The RedHawks were forced to play a win or go home game tonight against Lyon College who lost their opening round game against Bethel College.
Martin Methodist bounced back in the night cap and took the match in three straight from the Pipers winning 25-14, 25-21, and 25-17. Jhessica Martins, the 2009 TranSouth Freshman of the Year and First Team All-Conference Selection had 13 kills to carry the RedHawks on to day two of the tournament. Precious Sanders was selected Second Team All-Conference and Kayla Spencer was selected All-Conference Honorable Mention.
MMC will face the loser of the Cumberland University/Freed Hardeman University match. The RedHawks are scheduled to play at 4:30 at the Mark R. Moore Gymnasium on the campus of Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, Tennessee.
