Volleyball: Martins TranSouth Player of the Week    

HENDERSON, Tenn. - Jhessica Martins of Martin Methodist (Tenn.) College has been named the TranSouth Athletic Conference volleyball player of the week for the week ending Oct.4, 2009.

 

Martins, a freshman outside hitter from Uberlanoia, Brazil, led the RedHawks to a 2-1 week by averaging 6.0 kills per set in a total of nine sets. She also averaged 2.0 digs per set and totalled 10 blocks for the week.

 

She had a week-high 25 kills in a loss to Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University and followed with a 20-kill performance in a three-set sweep of Cumberland (Tenn.) University.

 

Martin Methodist is 10-6 on the season and 3-5 in the TranSouth Conference. The RedHawks will travel to Nashville, Tennessee Thursday to take on Trevecca Nazarene University with the first serve scheduled for 7:00.
