Volleyball: RedHawks Take 2 of 3 TSAC MatchesPULASKI, Tenn. (10/2) – The Martin Methodist College Volleyball hosted three TranSouth matches this week in the Curry Christian Life Center. The RedHawks won two of the three matches topping Mid-Continent University Monday night and Cumberland University last night but Freed-Hardeman University got the best of MMC Tuesday night.
In the first match of the week the Cougars came to town and the RedHawks easily notched a victory taking the match in three games: 25-13, 25-16, and 25-19. Precious Sanders knocked down 13 kills in the victory while Jhessica Martins had nine kills. Sanders also lead the defensive effort with 12 digs.
On Tuesday the RedHawks faced rival Freed-Hardeman University. After being down throughout the opening game and the Lions just one point away from a win the RedHwaks came back and won 28-26. The RedHawks gave a fight the next three games but the Lions came back strong taking the next three straight, 25-19, 25-21, and 25-18. Martins had an impressive night at the net blasting 25 kills. Sanders was also hitting well with a total of 14 kills.
In MMC’s final match of the week Cumberland was the opponent. After a disappointing loss to Freed the RedHawks were ready to take it out on the Bulldogs. The girls decided to make a change wearing the red tops for the home match and the tops may have had nothing to do with the win but the ladies were on fire. Taking the match from the Bulldogs in three straight games. Game one and two went back and forth trading leads but game three was all RedHawks. The final scores were 25-23, 25-21 and 25-15. On the net for the RedHawks Martins again was the leader with 20 kills. Kayla Spencer helped the cause with eight kills. Caroline Santos had 104 set assists on the week for the RedHawks.
Martin Methodist moves to 10-6 overall and 3-5 in the TranSouth Athletic Conference. The RedHawks will have the next couple of days off before travelling to Nashville, Tenn. next Thursday to take on Trevecca Nazarene Univresity.
