Volleyball: Martins POW, RedHawks Sweep CU Tourney    

(9/21) – After an impressive week last week for the RedHawks Jhessica Martins was named the TranSouth Athletic Conference volleyball player of the week for the week ending Sept. 20, 2009. Martin Methodist was 5-1 on the week.

 

Martins, a freshman outside hitter from Uberlanoia, Brazil, led the RedHawks to a 5-1 week with an amazing performance at the net. She totaled 115 kills in the six matches at an average of 6.1 kills per game with an attack percentage of .462. She also averaged 2.1 digs per game with seven aces and eight blocks for the week.

 

Martins had no fewer than 17 kills in any of the six matches, with a week-high 23 against the University of Rio Grande.

 

The RedHawks had a clean sweep in the Cumberland University Classic this past weekend beating the University of Rio Grande, Lindsey Wilson College, Mountain State University, and Faulkner State University. MMC also beat Mid-Continent University early last week but fell to Trevecca for their only loss on the week.

 

The RedHawks move to 7-4 overall and will host Lyon College in a TranSouth Conference match tonight at 7:00.
