Volleyball: MMC Falls to UnionJACKSON, Tenn. (9/11) – The RedHawks faced conference rival Union University last night in a TranSouth match on the Bulldogs campus. The Bulldogs were able to over power the RedHawks and took the match 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-22).
Martin Methodist opened the match in the first set with a quick 5-0 run. However, Union steadied themselves, to pull back even with the RedHawks. Union controlled the lead for the remainder of the first set and most of the second set. In the third and final set, Martin Methodist held a slim lead for most of the set, including a 3-0 lead to start play and a 14-11 lead midway through. Martin Methodist led 20-18 in the third set, before Union scored seven of the next nine points to take the win.
For Union, Kelsey Duling and Marcela Madeira led the way with 11 kills each. Heather Lieberman and Anna Sims added six and five kills respectively. Katie Adams posted 35 assists, while Lieberman and Madeira led with two service aces each. Shelby Swink led with four blocks.
Martin Methodist was led by Jhessica Martins with 13 kills and Precious Sanders with 12 kills. Kayla Spencer led with 19 assists while Jordan Owens and Ann-Kathrin Kuehhorn led with two blocks.
Union moves to 9-0 on the season and 2-0 in the TranSouth. Martin Methodist dropped to 2-3 overall and 0-2 in league play. MMC will have the weekend off from matches as their next match will be next Tuesday September 15th as they travel to Mayfield, Kentucky to take on Mid-Continent University in another TranSouth Conference Match.
