Volleyball: RedHawks Suffer TSAC LossPULASKI, Tenn. (9/4) – The TranSouth Athletic Conference is one of the toughest in the nation in every sport; volleyball being no exception. The RedHawks hosted the Wildcats from Bethel University last night in their first TranSouth match of the season and they had their first taste of true competition.
The Wildcats came to town for the RedHawks second match of the 2009 season and were able to give Martin Methodist a fight playing tough volleyball. All of the games were tooth and nail, long rallies and points trading back and forth the entire match. The Wildcats took game one 25-20, MMC won game two 25-23 but Bethel came out on top taking games three and four 25-19, 25-18 respectively.
Martin Methodist looked much improved but just couldn’t close out the games in the end. Sophomore Ann-Kathrin Kuehhorn of Bamberg, Germany led the offense for the RedHawks with 13 kills. Sophomore Kayla Spencer of Huntsville, Alabama also helped the offensive attack with 10 kills, on the defensive side she lead the team in digs with 15. Freshman setter Caroline Santos a native of Brazil had 34 set assist in the match.
The RedHawks won’t get a break as they travel to Birmingham, Alabama today to participate in the Birmingham Southern College Round Robin. Martin Methodist will play matches today and tomorrow.
