Pulaski, Tenn. (7/14) – Martin Methodist College’s women’s tennis player, Allison Winters, has been selected within the NAIA Region IV (South) Division to receive the ITA National Arthur Ashe Jr. Leadership and Sportsmanship Award. This award recognizes outstanding individuals in all divisions at the regional and national level. In August, the national winners are honored during a special ceremony hosted by the USTA during the Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day inside the Ashe Stadium. This award which dates back to 1984, goes to NCAA Division I, II, and III, NAIA, and JuCo Men’s and Women’s players who have exhibited outstanding sportsmanship and leadership as well as scholastic, extracurricular, and tennis achievements. The award luncheon will take place in the USTA Presidents Dining Room at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on Saturday, August 29, 2009, in New York City, NY. Tennis Coach, Melinda Sevier, stated “Allison is the ultimate leader; she is highly deserving of the ITA Arthur Ashe Leadership/ Sportsmanship Award. No one gives of themselves any more than Alli does. As Captain of our team, she is the consummate team player. She leads her teammates well, while also spreading her many and varied talents across our campus.” Winters came to Martin Methodist College from Pleasant View, Tennessee where she is currently a senior majoring in History.
