Bowling: RedHawks Compete in First TournamentINDIANAPOLIS, In. (10/15) – This past weekend the Martin Methodist College Bowling team competed in their first bowling match of the 2008-2009 season. They competed in the Brickyard Classic held at the Jubilee Bowling Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Women’s team came away with a 2nd place finish, while the Men’s team finished 10th.
Mirroring last years finish the girls came away with a second place finish. Leading the Redhawks on the women's side was LeAudra Byrd with an 11th place finish overall. Coach Norm Titus said "under demanding conditions, scores were low, but the girls continued to grind and had a great team effort to finish 2nd." On the guys side it was Tyrel York that took home a 5th place finish to lead the RedHawks. He had a pair of big games, 247 and 261, to put him on the coveted all tournament team. The Men’s team is loaded with talent this year. Although, a 10th place finish in the tournament does not display their full potential, they will continue to piece together our best team as the season progresses. “We are looking for the group of guys that display the right attitude, chemistry, and talent that will help us peak at the right time,” commented Coach Norm Titus. This week was a good starting point for both teams with what hopes to be a very successful season. The Redhawks will be on the lanes again on October 18th and 19th as they compete in the Orange and Black Classic in Beavercreek, Ohio.
