Tennis: Prada and Santos Win ITA Regional DoublesGEORGETOWN, Ky. (10/1) – The Martin Methodist College Tennis Teams competed in the ITA Southeast Regional Tennis Tournament last week in Georgetown, Kentucky. Men’s Doubles pair Melvin Prada and Vinicius Santos took home the doubles title. This is the first time since 2001 Martin Methodist players have won that title.
Prada and Santos beat the University of the Cumberlands pair in the first round 8-2, in the quarterfinals they beat Georgetown College’s Aspillaga and Ganev 8-3, they took out TranSouth Conference rival Bethel College’s Mejia and Ristow 8-6 in the semi-finals and to take home the ITA Regional Title the defeated Carcamo and Escalante of Georgetown 8-4. The Martin Methodist pair will travel to Mobile, Alabama for the ITA Nationals on October 16th. The Tournament will be held at the Mobile Tennis Center.
The RedHawks brought four women to compete in the singles and doubles ITA event. Jeanna Stanford, Mikaela Long, Natalia Takaro, and Allison Winters all competed. Takaro and Winters won their respective first round matches but were defeated in the next round. On the men’s singles side Thiago Dualiby, Juan Suarez, and Vinicius Santos won their first round matches but were also defeated in the next round. In men’s doubles, Michael Bishop and Matthew Dyer won their first round beating University of the Cumberlands team 8-2 and were defeated in the quarterfinals by Georgetown College 8-0.
