Bowling: Martin Ladies like VegasOn March 13th, the RedHawks took a long trip to Las Vegas, Nevada. Both Men’s and Women’s teams were surprised this year when, the trip for the ITC sectional qualifier usually routes them to Chattanooga, sent them to Las Vegas. This was the second time this season for some to the players to make the trip out to Las Vegas.
Friday the guys started off the trip by bowling in their singles event. Followed by the ladies bowling their singles event.
It was a good day for three of the regular RedHawk starters. Sean Rutherford, Brian Huther, and Cindy Buckner will represent Martin as three of the top 32 players in the entire nation competing in the college singles championship held in May. Sean finished 2nd averaging upward of 225. Brian finished 4th averaging 215.
Martin's sophomore Cindy Buckner peaked at the right time. She averaged 219 taking home the number one spot. She will represent the RedHawks at the singles event in Milwaukee in May.
When all the singles hype was over, it was time for the team events. There would be two days of baker matches, 64 games in all to determine the top four spots to go to the National Team Championships in Wichita Kansas. After 64 games of grueling competition the Martin Methodist Women’s Team came away with a 4th place finish, and a spot on the list for Wichita. The men struggled, and just couldn’t carry the intensity over from the singles event. They ended up with a disappointing finish 600+ pins behind the coveted 4th place spot.
